Welcome to Week 3 of the high school girls basketball season across the Tampa Bay area, as well as the state of Florida. Expect a little shuffle in this week's rankings, because of the Brooks-DeBartolo Thanksgiving Classic last week. Find out where your team is ranked below.
1. Tampa Bay Tech (3-0)
Last Week: Defeated Booker 68-37 & Defeated Lakewood (Forfeit)
This Week: vs Brandon (Tues.), @ Hillsborough (Fri.)
The Tampa Bay Tech Lady Titans remain the #1 team in the Tampa Bay area for the third consecutive week, as they won both of their games last week at the Brooks-DeBartolo Thanksgiving Classic. Junior K'Nisha Godfrey leads the team averaging 14.5 points per game in the first two games this season.
2. Plant (3-0)
Last Week: Defeated Spruce Creek 65-42 & Defeated Fort Myers 61-51
This Week: vs Palm Harbor University (Tues.), vs Alonso (Fri.)
The Plant Lady Panthers are coming off two wins last week over state-ranked teams in their respective classes. Junior forward Kendal Cheesman is coming off a 21 point performance in their win last week over Fort Myers. The Lady Panthers are back in action tonight vs Palm Harbor University in a District 7A-7 matchup.
3. Carrollwood Day (3-0)
Last Week: No games scheduled
This Week: Defeated Crystal River 92-31 (Mon.), vs Bishop Kenny (Fri.) (Lakewood HS Classic), vs Fort Myers (Sat.) (Lakewood HS Classic)
The Carrollwood Day Lady Patriots came into this week, after not playing during the Thanksgiving Break & showed complete dominance, in last night's 92-31 win over Crystal River. However, the Lady Patriots will be tested against Bishop Kenny on Friday night, in their first game of the Lakewood HS Classic.
4. Tampa Prep (3-0)
Last Week: No games scheduled
This Week: @ Berkeley Prep (Tues.), vs Steinbrenner (Wed.), @ Wesley Chapel (Fri.)
The Tampa Prep Lady Terrapins are entering a three game week, where two of the three will be on the road. The Lady Terrapins have not played since defeating Academy of the Holy Names, 52-41 back on November 23. Sophomore Kailyn Gilbert leads the team averaging 34.2 points per game.
5. Brooks-DeBartolo (4-0)
Last Week: Defeated Armwood 55-44 & Defeated Seffner Christian 56-54
This Week: Defeated American Collegiate 58-36 (Mon.), @ Braden River (Thu.), @ Gulf Coast (Sat.)
The Brooks-DeBartolo Lady Phoenix are off to a 4-0 start, under first year head coach Ellie Wilbur. The Lady Phoenix are averaging nearly 60 points per game so far this season. The Lady Phoenix have a tough task on Saturday night, as they will travel to Gulf Coast High School, led by head coach Mark Woodruff.
6. Wesley Chapel (3-0)
Last Week: Defeated Bishop McLaughlin 49-30
This Week: @ Wiregrass Ranch (Thu.), vs Tampa Prep (Fri.)
The Wesley Chapel Lady Wildcats come into this week, as the #6 ranked team in the Tampa Bay area. In the Wildcats' first three games of the season, their average margin of victory has been by 23 points per game. Sophomore guard Emari Lewis leads the team averaging 15 points per game this season.
7. Keswick Christian (5-0)
Last Week: Defeated Bishop McLaughlin 48-37
This Week: Defeated Bayshore Christian 64-26 (Mon.)
The Keswick Christian Lady Crusaders are averaging nearly 54 points per game, so far in their first five games of the season. Senior Jakara Akins is leading the team, averaging 17.4 points per game & is second on the team, averaging 6.2 rebounds per game this season. Keswick Christian will be back in action on Tuesday, December 10 @ Out-of-Door Academy.
8. Seffner Christian (4-1)
Last Week: Defeated Lakewood 63-45, Lost to Brooks-DeBartolo 56-54, Defeated Dr. Phillips 63-35 & Defeated Haines City 79-59
This Week: @ Booker (Tues.), vs Dunbar (Sat.)
The Seffner Christian Lady Crusaders are coming off a 2-0 weekend performance at the Florida Prospects Tournament in Orlando. The Lady Crusaders come into this week, as the #3 ranked team in Class 3A, according to MaxPreps. Seffner Christian is back in action tonight at Booker High School in Sarasota.
9. Northeast (4-0)
Last Week: Defeated Largo 62-40
This Week: vs St. Petersburg (Tues.), @ Bayshore (Thu.), @ Saint Stephen's Episcopal (Sat.)
The Northeast Lady Vikings remain the #9 team in this week's Tampa Bay girls basketball rankings. The Lady Vikings have not played since defeating Largo, 62-40 back on November 25. The Lady Vikings will have three games this week, with two of them on the road.
10. Jefferson (3-1)
Last Week: Defeated Dixie Hollins 61-14 & Defeated Lakeland 57-20
This Week: @ Middleton (Fri.)
The Jefferson Lady Dragons enter the rankings for the first time this season. Following their only loss so far this season to Plant, Jefferson has won two consecutive games. Junior forward Elayza Jackson is leading the team averaging 15.3 points per game this season. Jefferson will be back in action on Friday night, as they travel to Middleton High School.
