Last Week: Defeated American Collegiate, 55-13
This Week: @ George Jenkins
The Dreadnaughts continued their path to a 2nd consecutive Class 7A state title last week, with a 55-13 thumping of American Collegiate. It was a running clock throughout the 2nd half, as Lakeland was leading 49-0 at the half. Lakeland has not lost a regular season game since October 28, 2016 vs Kathleen.
2. Berkeley Prep (2-0)
Last Week: Defeated Calvary Christian, 21-13
This Week: vs Cardinal Mooney
Berkeley Prep got off to a 2-0 start to their 2019 season, with a 21-13 win at Calvary Christian last week. Berkeley Prep sophomore running back Travis Bates led the way with 161 rushing yards, on 19 carries & had 2 rushing touchdowns in the win. Berkeley Prep sophomore running back Xavier Townsend also had 158 rushing yards, on 23 carries & had a rushing touchdown.
3. Tampa Catholic (2-0)
Last Week: Defeated Cardinal Mooney, 55-14
This Week: @ Clearwater Central Catholic
Tampa Catholic cruised to a 55-14 win last week vs Cardinal Mooney, where they were led by ATH DJ Taylor & freshman RB Lewis Taylor as he scored his 1st & 2nd touchdowns of his early high school career.
4. Tampa Bay Tech (2-0)
Last Week: Defeated Plant City, 25-14
This Week: @ Hillsborough
Tampa Bay Tech improved to 2-0 on the 2019 season, with a 25-14 win vs Plant City last week. Tampa Bay Tech junior quarterback David Wright was 9/11, for 174 passing yards & had a couple touchdown passes in the win. Tampa Bay Tech Senior wide receiver Bobby Moore also had a receiving touchdown in the win.
5. Armwood (1-1)
Last Week: Lost to North Gwinnett (GA), 26-23
This Week: @ Bloomingdale
Armwood played their first out-of-state regular season game in school history, as they faced a Georgia powerhouse North Gwinnett team. However, Armwood would come up short in double overtime losing 26-23. The Hawks will travel to a tough Bloomingdale (1-0) team on Friday night.
6. Mitchell (2-0)
Last Week: Defeated River Ridge, 38-20
This Week: vs Land O'Lakes
On Friday night, Mitchell won their 4th straight game over their in-town rivals River Ridge, while junior quarterback Ezra Brennan went 7/10, for 237 passing yards & had 2 touchdown passes in the win. Senior running back Tyler Williams had 15 carries, for 138 rushing yards & had a rushing touchdown in the win. Mitchell junior defensive back Khamari Smith also had an interception in the win.
7. Clearwater (2-0)
Last Week: Defeated East Lake, 44-12
This Week: vs Jesuit
Clearwater senior quarterback Rent Montie went 18/32, for 303 passing yards & had 4 touchdown passes in the win on Friday night. Clearwater senior running back Latrez Bradley led the way with 49 rushing yards, on just 13 carries in Friday's win. Clearwater senior wide receiver Keedrik Murray had 11 receptions, for 238 receiving yards & had 3 touchdowns last week.
8. Gaither (2-0)
Last Week: Defeated Plant, 35-28
This Week: @ Plant City
Gaither senior quarterback Tony Bartolo went 17/26, for 230 passing yards & had 4 touchdown passes in the win. Bartolo also had 69 rushing yards, on 10 carries in last Friday's win over Plant. Gaither junior wide receiver Jordan Oladokun had 127 receiving yards, on 5 catches & had a receiving touchdown in the win.
9. Plant City (1-1)
Last Week: Lost to Tampa Bay Tech, 25-14
This Week: vs Gaither
Plant City senior running back Zamir Knighten led the Raiders, with 101 rushing yards, on just 8 carries last week. Plant City senior quarterback Makenzie Kennedy also had 86 rushing yards, on 13 carries & had a rushing touchdown, in the 25-14 loss at Tampa Bay Tech last week.
10. Jesuit (1-1)
Last Week: Defeated Immokalee, 39-6
This Week: @ Clearwater
The Jesuit Tigers traveled down to Immokalee last week & got their 1st win of the season, 39-6. Jesuit senior linebacker Brett Gerena led the defensive charge with 8 total tackles in the win last week. Jesuit junior running back Ricky Parks had 2 rushing touchdowns in the win last week.
