We are a week into the high school girls soccer season & there have been a few surprises so far to the season. Quite a few Tampa Bay area teams remain undefeated, so expect not much movement at the top of the rankings. Find out where your team is ranked below.
1. Palm Harbor University (3-0-0)
Last Week: Defeated River Ridge 3-1, Defeated Tarpon Springs 5-0, Defeated Seminole 3-0
This Week: @ Wharton (Tues.), vs Mitchell (Wed.), vs Clearwater (Thu.)
The Palm Harbor University Hurricanes are off to a solid start, as they begin their quest to repeat as state champions. Junior Camryn Boyette is leading the team with five goals scored so far this season. The Hurricanes will play three matches in three nights this week as well.
2. Berkeley Prep (3-0-0)
Last Week: Defeated St. Petersburg Catholic 8-0, Defeated Holy Trinity Episcopal 1-0 & Defeated Geneva, 5-1
This Week: vs Calvary Christian (Tues.), vs Tampa Catholic (Thu.), vs Clearwater Central Catholic (Fri.)
The Berkeley Prep Buccaneers girls soccer program began the season as a team that was on the bubble. Now they're facing the #2 ranked team in the Tampa Bay area after just the first week of the regular season. Sophomore Emma Watson is leading the team with six goals scored so far this season. The Bucs' will play three matches, all of them at home this week.
3. Wiregrass Ranch (3-0-0)
Last Week: Defeated Zephyrhills 8-0, Defeated Manatee 4-0
This Week: Defeated Cypress Creek 3-1 (Mon.), @ Tampa Catholic (Wed.)
The Wiregrass Ranch Bulls are off to a 3-0 start, with conceding just one goal so far through the first three games. Senior Avery Damjanovic leads the team with nine goals scored so far this season. The Bulls will be on the road on Wednesday night, as they travel to Tampa Catholic.
4. St. Petersburg (4-0-0)
Last Week: Defeated Northeast 7-1, Defeated Pinellas Park 8-0, Defeated Lakewood 9-0
This Week: Defeated Dunedin 2-0 (Mon.), vs River Ridge (Wed.), @ Gibbs (Fri.)
In just four games so far, the St. Petersburg girls soccer team is averaging nearly seven goals per game. Coming off a season, where their season fell just one win short of a trip to the state championship the Green Devils could have a chance at getting to DeLand in February. St. Petersburg will be back in action tomorrow night vs River Ridge.
5. Plant (5-0-1)
Last Week: Won the AHN Invitational
This Week: vs Steinbrenner (Tues.), @ Bloomingdale (Fri.)
The Plant Panthers will play just their second game this season at Dad's Stadium tonight vs Steinbrenner, after starting the season playing in the Academy of the Holy Names invitational, where they faced Largo, Sunlake & East Lake. Junior Quinn Ryan leads the team with seven goals scored so far this season.
6. Land O'Lakes (3-0-0)
Last Week: Defeated Tampa Catholic 7-4, Defeated Fivay 9-1
This Week: Defeated Tampa Prep 8-0 (Mon.), @ Sunlake (Wed.)
The Land O'Lakes Gators at this time last year struggled for the first half of the season, but so far they have no issues. The Gators will take on their rival Sunlake tomorrow night, as they look to wrap up the week on a high note. Freshman Jordan Green leads the team with seven goals scored this season.
7. Nature Coast Tech (5-0-0)
Last Week: Defeated West Port 8-0, Defeated Lecanto 2-1, Defeated Citrus 4-0, Defeated Hernando 7-0
This Week: Defeated Lake Gibson 8-0 (Mon.), vs Springstead (Wed.)
The Nature Coast Sharks girls soccer program could be on pace for their best season since 2012 (Finished 14-1-0). The Sharks have only conceded just one goal through the team's first five games this season. Sophomore Kennedy Weissman leads the team with 12 goals scored this season. Nature Coast will wrap up the week tomorrow night vs rival Springstead.
8. Wesley Chapel (3-0-0)
Last Week: Defeated Pasco 7-0, Defeated Zephyrhills 8-0, Defeated The Villages Charter 3-2
This Week: @ Gulf (Tues.), vs Academy at the Lakes (Wed.)
The Wesley Chapel Wildcats girls soccer team conceded their first two goals of the season in their last game. Wesley Chapel looks to go into Thanksgiving break on a good note, as they will face Gulf & Academy at the Lakes this week. Freshman Amaris Hamilton-Grein leads the team with eight goals scored so far this season.
9. River Ridge (2-1-1)
Last Week: Lost to Palm Harbor University 3-1, Tied Seminole 1-1, Defeated Cypress Creek 3-0
This Week: Defeated East Lake 6-3 (Mon.), @ Pasco (Tues.), @ St. Petersburg (Wed.)
The River Ridge Knights are coming off a 6-3 win last night over East Lake. The Royal Knights will be back in action again tonight, as they will travel to Pasco High School.
10. East Lake (1-1-2)
Last Week: Defeated Steinbrenner 1-0, Tied Academy of the Holy Names 1-1, Tied Plant 1-1
This Week: Lost to River Ridge 6-3 (Mon.), vs Seminole (Wed.)
The East Lake Eagles finished in second in this past week's Academy of the Holy Names invitational. The Eagles will wrap up the week tomorrow night with a home game vs Seminole.
