STORY: Ocoee 2020 DB Lovie Jenkins commits to Louisville

On Tuesday evening, Louisville picked up a commitment from the Central Florida area.


Ocoee (Fla.) defensive back Lovie Jenkins announced via his Twitter account, he is heading to the University of Louisville to play college football. Jenkins who was originally a Tennessee commit back in June, will no longer be playing for the Volunteers.


Jenkins chose Louisville over Appalachian State, Bethune-Cookman, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Colorado State, Connecticut & several others. Jenkins joins his current high school teammate Dexter Rentz, who announced his commitment to Louisville back in June.


Jenkins is the 23rd overall commit for Louisville in the class of 2020 & the 5th commit from the state of Florida, as he joins Atlantic (Delray) defensive lineman Henry Bryant, Sandalwood (Jacksonville) offensive lineman Kobe Baynes, Ocoee athlete Dexter Rentz & Miami Northwestern cornerback Ronald Delancy III.


Jenkins, is listed as a 5'10, 181 pound cornerback & is rated the 58th best cornerback in the nation, along with the 96th best prospect in the state of Florida, according to 247Sports.


Louisville currently holds the 29th ranked recruiting class & the 6th ranked recruiting class in the ACC, for the class of 2020. Jenkins visited with Louisville back in May & said, "I enjoyed every minute of it, the coaches & staff were very great to me."


Jenkins was recruited by Louisville safeties coach ShaDon Brown & defensive coordinator Bryan Brown. Whether, Jenkins signs in the early signing period in December, or on national signing day in February, Jenkins says "I'm 100% a Cardinal & I'm not going anywhere else."


In 2018, Jenkins had 3 interceptions, had 15 pass breakups for the Knights & also scored 4 touchdowns. Ocoee head football coach Aaron Sheppard on Jenkins' commitment. "He's a special kid, with very special talent. He can play all over the field, whether it's cornerback or being on special teams, Louisville is getting a good one" I couldn't be more proud of him, Sheppard added.
