On Monday night, Army's football team landed their 45th commit for the class of 2020, with the latest coming from Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.) linebacker Brett Gerena. Gerena chose the Black Knights over Eastern Michigan, Missouri State, Minnesota & Youngstown State on Monday night, via his Twitter account.
Gerena joins Tampa Catholic offensive lineman David Hoyt, Suncoast running back Aaron Adams, Ponte Vedra safety Tommy Zitello, Jesuit defensive lineman Raleigh Oxendine, Immokalee quarterback RJ Rosales, Saint Stephen's Episcopal linebacker Cam Vining, Clearwater Central Catholic linebacker Harrison Thomas & Jesuit cornerback Spencer Williams as members of the Sunshine State who are committed to Army in the class of 2020.
So far in 2019, Gerena has 18 total tackles this season, with 4 of the 18 for a loss. Coming off a 2018 season, where Gerena had 147 total tackles & led the Tigers to a state semifinal appearance, which resulted in a 14-3 loss at Cardinal Gibbons last November. Gerena's father Joe, who is the offensive coordinator at Jesuit, also played quarterback at Army from 1998-2000.
Prior to committing to Army, Gerena had interest from the following schools: Indiana & Wake Forest, but did not take a visit to either school. Gerena is listed as a 6'1, 212 pound linebacker, but can also play the running back position.
Gerena is currently unranked among the top prospects in the state of Florida, according to 247Sports.
