STORY: Deerfield Beach 2020 DB Christopher Townsel commits to USF

On Wednesday afternoon, the University of South Florida's football program has added another commit to their 2020 class. Deerfield Beach defensive back Christopher Townsel announced on his Twitter account, he has committed to USF.


Townsel chose USF over schools such as FIU, Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Rutgers, Southern Miss, Syracuse & Temple. Townsel is the 17th commit in the class of 2020 for Charlie Strong & his South Florida Bulls, as he joins Trinity Catholic offensive lineman Miller Lewis, Atlantic (Port Orange) linebacker Ty Berrong, Columbia (Lake City) wide receiver Marquez Bell, Columbia (Lake City) quarterback Jordan Smith, Valdosta (Georgia) quarterback Tate Rodemaker & several others.


The 6'2, 176 pound cornerback, is rated as a 3-star prospect, as well as ranked the 158th best cornerback in the nation & the 250th overall ranked prospect in the state of Florida, according to 247Sports.


Townsel, attended the Strike 7-on-7 tournament in Miami back in June, where he was impressed by many coaches & scouts.


Deerfield Beach head coach Jevon Glenn on Townsel's commitment to USF. "This kid has worked so hard & he truly deserves it, I'm happy for him & wish him nothing but the best."


Townsel, has led Deerfield Beach to a 3-2 start to the 2019 season, along with other leaders such as Tulane commit Michael Pratt, Florida State commit Jaylan Knighton, Georgia Tech wide receiver commit Bryce Gowdy, among others.
