One of the premiere defensive ends in the Tampa Bay area is planning on heading out west for his college football career.
Chamberlain (Tampa, Fla.) 2020 defensive end Johnny Walker announced on Monday, via Twitter he plans to attend Washington State University. Walker chose Washington State over Miami, Missouri, Toledo, Boston College, Bowling Green & several others. Walker had a total of 16 offers throughout his recruiting process & took only one visit (Washington State) back on August 31.
Walker is listed as a 6'3, 204 pound prospect & is the 30th ranked weak-side defensive end in the nation, according to 247Sports. Walker is also ranked the 104th highest prospect in the state of Florida, according to 247Sports. Last season, Walker had 48 total tackles & 20 tackles for loss, in 9 games played.
Walker joins former Jesuit (Tampa) wide receiver/kick returner Travell Harris as members of the Tampa Bay area to join Washington State.
Walker spoke with 247Sports' John Garcia following the visit. "It was amazing, the coaches were amazing, the atmosphere was electric & I can't wait to play here", Walker added.
Walker was recruited by assistant coaches Steve Spurrier Jr. & Matt Brock to join the Cougars. Walker is the 11th player to commit to Washington State for the class of 2020, but only the second defensive player to join. Washington State has the 73rd ranked recruiting class in the nation & the 10th ranked recruiting class among Pac-12 schools for the class of 2020.
