SEFFNER- Another chapter will be renewed in this "Battle of the Bay", as Armwood head football coach Evan Davis calls the rivalry with Plant. Plant is coming into the 2019 season, following an 11-2 season before losing to eventual Class 7A champion Lakeland in the regional finals, 49-30 last November at Bryant Stadium. The Panthers are led by senior quarterback Tucker Gleason, who is a Georgia Tech commit, alongside Christian Carvajal & Hayden Reed handling duties at the running back position. Plant lost 38 seniors due to graduation after last season, so they will be relying on Baldwin Barnes, Frank Murphy, Judah Norwood & Eli Cook to handle the receiving duties for Gleason this season. Plant also has one of the nation's premier kickers Trevor Haire, who came over from Steinbrenner over the summer.
Armwood is coming into the 2019 season, following a 13-2 season before falling to Miami Northwestern in the 6A state title game. After losing 17 seniors, the Hawks will turn the momentum as they are expected to lead towards junior quarterback Cam'ron Ransom, junior wide receiver Agiye Hall, junior wide receiver Charles Montgomery & several others. Armwood also has senior defensive tackle Clyde Pinder Jr. who is a North Carolina commit, that is ranked the 39th best defensive lineman in the nation, according to 247Sports. Armwood coach Evan Davis says his keys to the game, "We have to win the time of possession, the turnover battle & clean up the penalties." However the Hawks do return 16 of their 22 starters from last year's team, so we can expect them to make another run at a possible state championship. Armwood has won the previous 2 meetings vs Plant at Lyle Flagg Stadium & are an 11 point favorite, according to Joe Pinkos' Game Forecast at FloridaHSFootball.com
